GHOSTS OF NOW

Munich, Bavaria 2023

Ongoing Research / Performative Installation in Collaboration with Deva Schubert.

The project reimagines mythmaking in the age of machine learning and collective intelligence. Rooted in the Alpine regions of Bavaria and Tyrol, Ghosts of Now revisits ancient stories and folk rituals to ask how inherited belief systems might evolve when technology itself becomes a vessel for imagination. Myths once bound communities to the natural world; today, digital networks perform a similar role, translating instinct into algorithm and folklore into data.

Through performance, film, and installation, the work examines how traditional narratives of spirits, transformation, and collective identity can be re-performed within the technological present. The “ghosts” here are not spectral figures of the past but living metaphors for distributed memory—traces of ancestral logic resurfacing in systems of automation and shared cognition.

By merging oral storytelling with machine-generated language, embodied ritual with computational patterning, Ghosts of Now creates a space where folklore becomes a lens for rethinking consciousness and community. The project asks how myth might once again serve as a connective tissue—between human and machine, self and collective, landscape and code—offering new forms of belonging in an age defined by fragmentation and abstraction.
