„A Tree Is Best Measured

When It Is Down“ 2016
Part of Group Exhibition

Movement-reactive installation in which a technique by Steve Reich (phase- shifitng) is translated onto bass bars by means of motor skills.

Via a tracking system programmed in Max MSP, the work only plays when it is directly received and thus behaves reactively to the viewer.

The impulse to start the mechanics is only triggered by looking at the work, whereby a webcam uses facial recognition software to decide whether the work is being viewed at the time.

Since the individual starting points of the sequences are triggered differently, this can result in an almost infinite number of variations.

The repetitive patterns that are triggered by this create patterns that are supposed to put the listener into a trance-like state.
